Global citizenship in class

In the Netherlands, global citizenship is encouraged in most educational programmes, although not always explicitly. NCDO analysed to what extent existing school books contribute to this objective and how they do so. The results show exactly what material is suited to encouraging world citizenship.

NCDO discovered that the way in which global citizenship was included in lessons was not very systematic – and so it set up a committee to create a context. With support from the feedback group, this committee has developed 24 ‘Windows on the World’. Each window is a perspective from which to view the world. Together the perspectives form an interdisciplinary world canon. Professional educators can view the world canon on wereldburger.nl. NCDO also gives them practical tips on how to present the windows.
