There are a number of ways for teachers to focus on global citizenship in the classroom. The links above (‘primary education’, ‘secondary education’ and ‘higher education’) feature some innovative examples of lesson materials and education projects that were published, supported or made possible by NCDO.

The three examples below can be used at all levels of education: Vensters op de Wereld (Windows to the World), Millenniumdoelen (Millennium Development Goals) and Wereldplein (World Square).

Vensters op de Wereld (Windows on the World)

Eight themes divided into 24 ‘windows’ offer insight into the concept of 'global citizenship’. Sustainable development, diversity, human rights, globalisation: these are just a few of the themes used to appeal to teachers and students.
You can order the book 'Vensters op de Wereld' at no cost , or you can view it online at www.venstersopdewereld.nl. This link also contains additional information for each theme, including references, websites, tips for field trips and film suggestions.

Millennium Development Goals Atlas
The Millennium Development Goals Atlas is an online overview showing how far the world has come so far in achieving the Millennium Development Goals. The site presents information per country and per Millennium Goal that can be used in lessons, papers and presentations.

Wereldplein (Global Square)
The wereldplein was presented during the biannual National Education Exhibition (NOT) in 2009. It is a website that provides an overview of educational resources in the field of global citizenship. A large number of social and educational organisations collaborate in the wereldplein project.
