NCDO has drawn up an educational programme for the Netherlands based on the concept of global citizenship. The goal is to structurally increase the amount of attention paid to international themes throughout the curriculum in elementary and in secondary schools, in professional education and at universities. You are cordially invited to work together with NCDO to make a contribution towards achieving this goal.
Global citizenship and education
NCDO wishes to stimulate global citizenship in the Netherlands in order to contribute to attaining the Millennium Development Goals. The NCDO’s educational programme therefore supports teachers and educational institutions that wish to anchor global citizenship in their teaching materials.
NCDO provides tools such as workshops on global citizenship at schools. Schools can also apply for subsidies via NCDO. They can also be brought into contact with other schools that have already integrated attention for global citizenship in their curriculum.
Goal
The educational programme is geared towards all levels of education, from elementary education to secondary education and higher education. It has a number of goals:
- To influence educational policy in order to increase the attention paid to global citizenship.
- To equip current and future teachers with knowledge and tools for teaching global citizenship.
- To help develop innovative teaching materials.
- To promote and increase awareness of global citizenship.
